Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum

Discover the life and times of Samuel Johnson, England's greatest man of letters and famous wit. Follow the story of the young Samuel Johnson from his difficult childhood to national celebrity and Dictionary fame. Experience five floors of exhibits in a beautiful Grade I listed building including period room settings, an introductory film, interactive displays and activities for children. Guided tours and school bookings available by prior arrangement - please contact the Museums & Heritage Officer to discuss your requirements.

Please note that, due to the nature of the building's Grade I listing, there are many unavoidable steps.

Looking for something to keep the kids entertained this half term? The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum has activities, trails and dressing up fun for all ages.

Entry is free of charge and special offers card holders can claim a free history colouring book for every child in their group throughout February.

The Museum is open from 11am – 3.30pm every day of the week, with last admissions at 3pm
